Human Languages
Tarshite or Hillspeech is the language of the kingdom of Tarsh which is spoken by the people of the area. It was brought from Peloria in the north when the settlers moved in to Tarsh and Dragon Pass. It has common linguistic roots with Lunar Pelorian and is often referred to as ‘Old Pelorian’. Indeed a person can speak Lunar Pelorian at ½ his skill in Tarshite.
Sartarite is language of the Kingdom of Sartar and was originally from the region of Hendrikei in the Holy Country to the south. When they moved north the Sartarites brought it with them. A speaker will have 1% in Stormtongue for every 10% they have in Sartarite.
Lunar is often called New Pelorian and has a common linguistic origin with Tarshite in the region of Peloria. It is spoken by the Lunars as the language of the Empire of the Red Moon. As the Lunar Empire spreads, so does its culture and language. Speakers will have Tarshite ‘Old Pelorain’ at ½ of their skill in Lunar ‘New Pelorian’.
Tradetalk was initially a language of the Issaries trader cult that spread so far and wide that it is now common throughout Glorantha. Even non-human regions will have a degree of skill in it and it is the most commonly spoken second language.
Grazelander is the remnant of a language once known as the ‘Pure Horse Tongue’ and is only spoken by Grazelanders as a first language. It is very similar to the language of the horse barbarians of northern Peloria. It is only spoken amongst Grazelanders and not with outsiders.
Praxian is the tongue of the nomad tribes of the Plains of Prax and is spoken by all who live there including the Agimori (men and-a half), Basmoli and non-human Morokanth.
Earthtongue is the speech of Earth cults, such as Ernalda, and earth related creatures such as gnomes and reptiles. Many of the places in Tarsh have the more formal Earthtongue names and the more commonly used Tarshite version.
