Politics
The Kingdom of Tarsh is ruled by King Moirades with Prince Pharandos, his son and heir. There is also Tatius the Bright, The Lunar Imperial Overseer, present to represent the interests of the Red Emperor and the Empire. Beneath the King are the twenty Tribal Chiefs who are appointed by him. These are called Armsmen, Chiefs or even Tribal kings, though this is frowned upon. They rule their lands as they see fit but a wise chief does so lightly to keep the support of his clan. The clans are ruled by a Clan Chief with the support of a Ring of thirteen wise members. Within the Clan is also a Shrieve that is appointed by the Tribal Chief to represent his interests, collects taxes and administer tribal justice. In many, but not all cases, the Clan Chief is a ceremonial role but a wise Shrieve will co-operate with the Clan Chief who knows the locals area, politics and people. Villagers are governed by a Ring of Elders that covers day to day decisions though in small settlements this will be in practice a single Hetman. Each village has its own Fyrd to be raised in time of conflict. The members of the fyrd are free folk capable of bearing arms and are called
Cottars. In the more civilised areas, especially the valleys, paid warriors ae employed and the local militia rarely called upon.
The Barastaros
Avric the Halt (pictured right) is the Chief of the Barastaros Tribe of western Tarsh. Two to three generations ago his tribe was almost eliminated in a war with the Tremarki Tribe, of whom the Barastaros where then a part. They were saved by the King but had to adopt settlers from Aggar and Holay to rebuild the tribe along with agreeing to oversite from the King. Avric directly controls the Baile Copair Clan from the town of Copper Town which is the prime source of tribal wealth. Within the tribe are also the Forghar (autumn), Barastari, Quintal and Merearing clans.
